hOW DOES THE TUNE PROCESS WORK?

If you have questions or have decided to have the OTT tune installed on your vehicle, the first step would be to verify that your vehicle is covered. Once verified, contact us using one of the methods provided on the Contact Us tab at the top of this website.

Please include the following information in your E-mail:

• The year and model of your vehicle
• Where you are located
• Vehicle modifications that may affect the tune such as tire size, gearing, and engine modifications such as cold air intakes. 

Disclaimer: All vehicles being tuned must have all factory emissions equipment still installed and operating correctly without check engine lights. Neither Overland Tailor Tuning or CRS Tuning will modify or bypass any factory emissions equipment or warning lights.

We will discuss the tune options and then set an appointment day, location, and time.

Once your tune has been scheduled with us, the only things you will need for the tune to be installed is your vehicle and a form of payment. At this time we can accept cash, Venmo, and credit cards. All credit card transactions will have a 3% processing fee added to the total.

Will we meet at the predetermined time and location and then the tune process will begin. All Toyota guidelines for programming will be followed. A battery voltage maintainer will be installed to ensure proper battery voltage during the update and tune process. If needed, both the engine and transmission control modules will be updated to the newest available software from Toyota. There is no charge extra charge for this part of the tune process. Once the factory engine and transmission control modules are updated the tune can be installed. At this point the process varies depending on your vehicle model, year, modifications, and tune requirements. Most customers tune installs will follow our standard tune process but some will require custom tuning. Your will know which process your vehicle requires before your tune install is scheduled.

Most customers will not require custom tuning and the standard version of the tune will be perfect for improving the drivability of their vehicle. The process of installing the standard tune takes 30-45 minutes from start to finish including your test drive. All standard tunes have the same power increase and shifting improvements. We have multiple different throttle sensitivity levels for customers to choose from that allow us to tailor the throttle to each customers driving style and eliminate the sluggish feeling on many vehicles when pressing the throttle. The standard throttle settings are:

• Super Lite
• Lite
• Mild
• Medium
• Spicy
• Super Spicy

There is no need to decide which setting you want prior to tune day, you will be able to try all of them if you would like. I typically ask questions before installing the tune to help determine which setting to start each customer on. Most customers do not need to try each one and our happy on the first or second setting they try. If you decide days, weeks, or months after you have left that you would like the sensitivity changed, there is no charge. You simply contact me and schedule a time to meet and change the sensitivity setting.

Some Toyota vehicle have an ECT or Tow/Haul mode button. With these vehicles, the tune will have the next level higher throttle response. For instance, on a 2022 model Tacoma with the lite-mild setting, your normal driving setting would be lite throttle response with mild throttle response with the ECT button pressed. 

Custom Tuning

Some vehicles have the option for custom tuning. This process takes at least an hour and requires data logging and multiple test drives. Custom tuning is typically needed when a cold air intake is installed on a 4.0 or 5.7 engine. Most cold air intakes modify the size and shape of the intake pipe causing the mass airflow sensor to read incorrectly and this needs to be calibrated a part of the tune process. The need for custom tuning will be discussed if needed based on vehicle modifications and stock vehicles do not benefit from the custom tuning.
